The GOD who speaks!
Hebrews 1:1-4
By Ysrael De la Cruz
To communicate is the act or process of using words (verbal), sounds, signs or behavior (non-verbal) to express or exchange information or to express your ideas, thoughts, feelings, etc. to someone else. Sometimes, there is miscommunication (failure to communicate clearly); at times there is misunderstanding (failure to understand something, misinterpretation).
With all the technological advancements you would think that it would be nearly impossible for us to miscommunicate or misinterpret the message. But it happens all the time.
And, then they found out why the Chevy Nova never sold well in Spanish speaking countries. “No Va” means “It Does Not Go” in Spanish…
Since the beginning of time, the God of the Bible has been communicating with people. God (Elohim) Yahweh is distinct from other gods in that he speaks; he communicates with his creation. He communicates with people. The gods or idols or the nations were man-made and did not speak or communicate with anyone.
Hebrews 1:1-4
The author of this letter reminds his recipients how God has communicated with us.
In the past (long ago) Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, ESV
God spoke through the prophets: they were God’s agents by which God communicated his plan to his people. The prophets were God’s voice to. “Thus says the LORD” (This is what the LORD says..) Even though God used human agents, the message was clear because it came directly from God. How did you know it was God who really spoke? it was the truth. It happened just as the Lord said it would. 2 Pet 1:20-21 20knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Of all the prophecies we have in the Bible, some have already been fulfilled. The Jews can testify to the fact that when God communicated through the prophets; it happened just as the LORD said. A prophet said, a virgin would be with a child; his name will mean God with us. Isa.7:14
Daniel understood that the exile would last 70 years because he read the prophecy of Jeremiah. Da.9:2; 2 CHr.36:21; Ez.1:1, Jer.25:11
Daniel predicted the exact time when the Messiah (Anointed one) would appear and he also prophesied that he would be killed. Dan.9:25-26
Most of the prophecies of the Old Testament have been fulfilled, there are some still pending which have to do with God’s kingdom, God’s rule.
God spoke by the prophets and everything God said is certain.
In these last day God has spoken to us by His Son. The author includes himself as one of those who received God’s ultimate communication.
In these last days (recently….. God has spoken to us by/through his own Son)
Jesus is God’s final word, God’s ultimate communication to the world.)
God decided not to send anyone else, he chose to come deliver the message himself. Jesus is God’s message to the world.
What is God saying to you through Jesus?
-The Son is heir of all things (everything belongs to him) He is the creator of all things. John 1:3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made. Col.1:16 by him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible. He is before all things and in him all things hold together.
-Jesus is the radiance of God’s glory, the exact replica of his being. (the exact imprint of his nature) This is why Jesus is called Immanuel, God with us. To see Jesus, was to see God himself. Jesus is God in the flesh (the Word made flesh). John 1:1, 14 The image of the invisible God. When Jesus appeared, God was visible. In the Old Testament people saw the glory of God, this too was Yeshua (Jesus). He sustains or hold all things together by his powerful word.
-Jesus provided purification for sins. By his death on the cross. He was the Savior by whom people can be saved. He paid for our sins by dying on our place. When you look at Jesus you must see God’s way of salvation. (I came to save you)
-He is at the right hand of majesty in heaven: He is superior to the angels he created. In all things, Jesus has the supremacy, he is preeminent in all.
These are just some facts about Jesus that the author of Hebrews highlights to prove to his readers that Jesus is supreme, and he is God’s final message to the world.
What is God saying to the world? He said, I created with purpose. I love you and came to save you and give you eternal life.
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life.
God has spoken to us through Jesus. How are you going to respond to God’s message?
We and the world must receive the message and embrace Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is by receiving Jesus that we become children of God; it is by faith in Jesus that we are saved.
To ignore God’s message is to welcome judgment upon yourself, punishment instead of blessing. John 3:16-17
In the past God spoke through the prophets in many ways, but in the last days, he has spoken to us through Jesus. This was God’s final message to the world.
Jesus is known as the incarnate Word of God. The word made flesh.
God used prophets, kings, shepherds and apostles to document his word, his message to the world. The Bible is God’s written word. Every time you read it, you are hearing God’s message to us.
Whatever God said through the prophets is recorded here; whatever God has said to us through Jesus is here. There won’t be any more communication from God for he already said what needed to be said. Now it’s going to be up to us to listen.
God is speaking, are you listening?
