The Gospel of Jesus Christ

The gospel of Jesus Christ
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
By Ysrael De la Cruz
Often in the Scriptures we are warned to watch out for false teaching; watch out for false gospels. It is essential even today for followers of Jesus to be acquainted with the teachings of the Bible so that we do not be deceived by the world’s ideologies. There are false gospels being proclaimed and we must expose them. (We hear about the prosperity gospel, the gospel of legalism and so forth)
Paul said he is not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God for the salvation of anyone who believes. Rom.1:16
Today, like Paul when he wrote to the Corinthian church, I want to remind you of the gospel of Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
I would like to remind you of the gospel I preached to you. Notice in the text.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is preached (proclaimed or announced)
Which you received (it is received or rejected by people).
In which you stand. (the church is established in the message of the gospel, when you believe the gospel, you take a stand on it, it is where you stand. As believers we are standing in the message of the gospel, we are established in it.
By which you are saved (the message of the gospel, the good news of Jesus saves those who believe). Paul said you are saved if you hold fast to the message I preached to you. People must hold fast to the message of the gospel in order to be saved.

Paul delivered to the Corinthian church what he had received as well. Here is the content of the gospel.
-Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures. Jesus paid the penalty for our sins. He came to do away with sin and there are many Scriptures that speak about Jesus’ sacrifice to redeem us from the bondage of sin and death. Isaiah 53:5 He was pierced for our transgression; he was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was upon him and by his wounds we are healed.

-He was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. (v.4) The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is the anchor of our faith. Paul said that if Christ did not rise from the dead our preaching is void and our faith useless. He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures; Jesus announced that he would rise on the third day. He said things like (destroy this temple and I will raise it up in three days. (John 2:19); the sign of Jonah (Matt.12:40)
Matt.16:21 Jesus told his disciples what would be done to him in Jerusalem.

-Jesus appeared to his followers (Cephas, the twelve, and more than five hundred, then to James and all the apostles, and lastly to Paul himself)
People saw the risen Savior; he appeared to his followers to prove that he was alive; he proved that he is who he claimed to be.
Lastly Jesus appeared to a skeptical, someone who did not believe in him. Paul used to persecute the church and he saw the risen Jesus, who appointed him to be an apostle to the Gentiles. He talked about how the Lord showed him grace since he did not deserve to be an apostle because he persecuted the church; but God called him and changed his purpose. Paul became a great ambassador to the kingdom of God; he was so eager to preach the gospel to anyone he came in contact. Paul was so committed to spreading the news of Jesus. He said that while he lived, he would live for Christ. Php.1:21 To me to live is Christ and die is gain.

I want to remind you of the gospel of Jesus Christ; the message you heard, which you believed, in which you stand and by which you are saved if you hold firmly to the message preached to you.
I want to remind you of the gospel of Jesus Christ: the Jesus died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures. That he was buried and raised on the third day according to Scriptures; that he appeared to his followers given them plenty of evidence that he was alive.
He has commissioned all his followers to tell the world, every nation about the great news of the gospel. Truly the gospel has the power to change and transform lives. It is the power of God for the salvation of anyone who believes.
