God Came Near!

God came near!
Gen.3:8-10// John 1:14

There are so many means of communications; people use all kinds of devices to communicate with others, radio, phone, letters, text, facetime, etc. face to face communication. Nothing replaces face to face communication. Communication is a very important thing; a relationship would not thrive if there is not good communication. When God created humans, they enjoy a direct communication their Creator. People would talk with God face to face. This was a very personal relationship that existed between God and his creation. This relationship was perfect, the fellowship between God and humans was perfect. But all that changed. One day God came to walk with them and the humans for the first time ran from the presence of God. They tried to hide from God.
Genesis 3:8-10
They felt dirty and unworthy to be in the presence of God. This is the story when humanity distanced themselves from God. They could no longer stand unashamed in the presence of God. They distanced themselves from their Creator; they had fallen from their privileged position. The communication between them and their Creator was severed, disconnected. (sin entered the world and this was once of its consequences) It separated us from our Creator.

Even though mankind ran away from God in the Garden of Eden, God right there took the initiative to fix what man had damaged.
God chose to reveal his plan of redemption. He chose some individuals to let them know what he would do in the future. God began to speak to people, to announce his redemptive plan for the world. God spoke through the prophets.

Hebrews 1:1 Tells us that in the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways.
One of the things God announced through the prophet Jeremiah was the establishment of a new covenant in which God would make himself known to people. Jer.31:31-34
God did the unthinkable. He chose to come near in a very tangible way. This time not in a garden, but in a small town called Bethlehem. He decided to put on human flesh to come to our world, so that people once again get the chance to walk with him like the first humans did. John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
The word became flesh, the logos became human and made his dwelling among us. The meaning of this verse is so profound. When God chose the nation of Israel, God promised them to be his God and they will be his people. When Israel traveled through the dessert, God would go with them. The people would pitch tents those 40 years they wandered in the wilderness. Imagine thousands of tents in the dessert at nighttime, this was the tent where God dwelt; Moses would go in there to speak with God. This is what it means when it says, “he made his dwelling among us.” God pitched his tent among us; he moved into our neighborhood. He came near us!
The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

Why did God move into our world? Because he came to fix the problem created in the garden. He came to do away with sin. God came to bring us back to himself. He came for you.

For a long time now, people have been running away from God on their way to destruction; perhaps you too have been running away from God. The Good News is God came near for you; he came to rescue you from hell. Stop running away from the one who can truly save you and give you life. His name is Jesus.
God did his part, have you done yours?
